AI + Game-based Learning = Engagement
With the power of AI, you can create customized, engaging classroom activities, while still keeping powerful learning. In this fast paced session, come dive into how you can “app-smash” FREE AI and edtech tools to quickly and easily get the perfect game or interactive activity for your students. Get inspiration from a variety of ideas, perfect for the AI beginner to the more expert user. A few ideas will have students using AI, so these will be for grades 6-12. The session’s format will have participant thoughts facilitated through Pear Deck. It begins with a brief introduction of prompting and best practices. It then continues with a wide variety of ideas for inspiration across several free AI-powered tools. Ideas will be separated out by Depth of Knowledge level, and suggestions for both student and teacher usage of AI tools will be shared. Instruction that includes student-facing chatbots will be limited to vetted tools that are FERPA and COPPA compliant and only for grades 6-12, as per the NCDPI AI Guidelines. Participants will receive a digital one-pager with all “how to” instructions from the session, with ideas categorized by “Quick Wins” to “Little More Effort” to “Trailblazing”. They will also receive their own editable copy of the session slides to organize in their Google Drive, and freebies like stickers and candy. This session develops ISTE Educator Competencies of Designers as they create personalized, unique, and engaging resources. This session also aligns to the AI Implementation Roadmap for NC, Step 2: Develop Your Staff.
