Amplifying Voices: Podcasting, Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy, and Educational Technology in K–12 Leadership

This session explores the intersection of educational technology and culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP) through the lens of a podcast-based dissertation that amplifies the voices of K–12 educators and leaders. As schools increasingly adopt digital tools, equity and cultural relevance often fall behind innovation. This research centers the experiences of educators who leverage technology to honor, sustain, and reflect the diverse cultural identities of their students—rather than erase or sideline them.Using a nontraditional, arts-based methodology, the podcast dissertation presents real-world stories from classrooms and leadership spaces where ed tech is used to support CSP. Participants in this session will hear excerpts from the podcast, learn about the research process, and explore how podcasting itself can serve as both a tool for professional learning and a model for culturally responsive leadership.Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for integrating culturally sustaining practices into technology-rich environments, along with inspiration to rethink leadership, storytelling, and scholarship in their own schools and districts.
