Part of NCTIES 2026
Friday 6 March 2026·3:30 pm

As AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot become more accessible, many educators are grappling with a growing concern: "Is this just another way for students to cheat?" This session aims to reframe that mindset by showing how AI, when used intentionally, can become a powerful ally in teaching and learning. We will begin by unpacking the common fears and misconceptions surrounding AI in the classroom. Using real-world examples, we'll demonstrate how AI can support instructional goals such as scaffolding writing, generating differentiated materials, and encouraging inquiry-based learning. Throughout the session, we'll emphasize how AI can be used to enhance student agency, support diverse learners, and build digital literacy, rather than undermining academic integrity. We'll also share strategies for designing assignments that are "AI-resilient," meaning they encourage original thinking and discourage misuse.
