Designing the Impossible: A Hands-On Workshop with Google Gems and Canva Code
AI is opening doors to classroom experiences that were never possible before. Teachers can now design their own interactive activities, not just consume what others have created. This workshop puts the power of AI creation directly into teachers’ hands through Google Gems and Canva Code.In the first half of the session, participants will dive into Google Gems. They will see how Gems can generate interactive learning journeys that adapt in real time, then learn how to design their own. Teachers will experiment with building Gems that go beyond static lessons and open up new ways to spark inquiry, critical thinking, and creativity. The second half of the session shifts to Canva Code. Participants will learn how to move past templates and build custom activities that bring flexibility and interactivity to the classroom. They will create their own Canva Code solutions and leave with the skills to keep designing more.By the end of the workshop, each teacher will have built at least one Gem and one Canva Code activity of their own and will leave with the confidence to continue creating AI-powered activities that meet the unique needs of their students.ISTE Standards Addressed:Educator 2.5.a: Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.Educator 2.5.b: Design authentic learning activities that incorporate technology to advance student outcomes.Educator 2.6.c: Create learning opportunities that challenge students to use a design process and computational thinking to innovate and solve problems.Student 1.1.c: Use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
