"Don't Stop Believin': Helping ALT Teachers Thrive"

Part of NCTIES 2026
Thursday 5 March 2026·8:15 pm

Step back to the 80s and join us for an interactive session focused on a group of teachers who are often overlooked but vital to the profession—those entering through alternative pathways. Participants will explore the unique challenges alternatively licensed beginning teachers face and collaborate to brainstorm “totally awesome” strategies for support. Presenters from New Hanover County Schools will share their Beginning Teacher Support model, including the role of a dedicated specialist who guides ALT teachers both in the classroom and through the licensure process. Attendees will also leave with a practical resource—the 10-Day Plan Launching Pad—that can be adapted to create individualized supports in their own districts. Expect opportunities to share ideas, connect with colleagues, and leave energized with new ways to help alternatively licensed teachers thrive.
