Game on Dudes and Dudettes: Gamification to Support Student Learning and Engagement
This workshop will share ideas and tools for creating digital games to support both academic and social-emotional learning in the classroom. Digital games can introduce new content and support review of learned material. They can also encourage community building through healthy competition and learning how to work together in teams. Participants will learn to create digital games using a hands-on approach and see that digital games can support motivation, engagement, and immediate feedback. Games that can be used for individual, small and whole group learning will be shown and participants will leave the session with completed games they can use when they return to their classrooms. We'll also provide a list of additional resources such as timers, leaderboards, and badges to support the use of digital games in the classroom. Both traditional web 2.0 tools such as Wayground (formerly Quizizz), Wordwall, and Flippity will be introduced as well as how to leverage AI to create games sets for Blooket and create Jeopardy review games. Opportunities for participants to share how they are using digital games to support teaching and learning will also be a part of the session. We'll collaboratively discover how digital game development and use can help educators grown as learners, designers, and facilitators.
