Part of NCTIES 2026
Friday 6 March 2026·5:30 pm

To strengthen students’ understanding of our increasingly interconnected world, science education must account for local and global (glocal) relevance in student learning. In "Glocal by Design: Glocalizing Student-Led Research for a Connected World,” participants will explore how to glocalize a secondary science research methods course—empowering students to investigate and address meaningful, community-based challenges through a global lens. Presenters from Gaston Early College of Medical Sciences and North Carolina State University’s Friday Institute for Educational Innovation will share practical strategies, tools, and project frameworks that foster student agency, global competence, and authentic research skills. Discover how purposeful instructional design can connect your science classroom to the world while grounding learning in students’ own communities.
