Man vs. Machine: Navigating the Line between AI and the Human Experience in Education

Part of NCTIES 2026
Friday 6 March 2026·5:30 pm

In this session, we will explore how educators can harness the power of AI while preserving the essential human experiences that make lessons meaningful. Participants will learn practical ways to balance AI tools with their own expertise in lesson design. This session will include:A discussion on why educators might reconsider the traditional 80/20 rule and instead adopt a more balanced 50/50 partnership with AI.A step-by-step walkthrough of a planning framework that combines AI’s ability to generate high-quality lesson structures with the unique stories, experiences, and expertise that only educators can bring to the classroom.A practical planning document that participants can take away and use to fuse artificial intelligence with authentic human connections.A collaborative activity where participants design a mini-lesson on a specific subject. Using an AI planning tool (e.g., Magic School) alongside the framework, educators will learn how to streamline preparation while still infusing their personality and professional judgment into instruction.By the end of the session, participants will leave with concrete strategies and a reusable planning tool to reimagine lesson design—saving time, strengthening authenticity, and elevating the student learning experience.
