What Is The F in F = ma? Demonstrations and experiments with Newton’s 2nd Law
Part of PDTCA 2026
Thursday 19 February 2026·4:00 pm
The equation for the second law looks deceptively simple, but what is the F in F=ma? If force and acceleration are vector quantities, what does that say about the directions of these? In this session I will show a number of demonstrations that foster intuition and understanding of this fundamental pillar of Physics. The demonstrations are inexpensive and focused on this concept. Participants will also try two experiments that use the 2nd Law to predict results.
