While supporting students, who have learning disorders and reading and writing, in junior high math and science classes, Tannis became interested in how to incorporate relevant literacy strategies, outside of the language arts classroom. Particularly, focusing on how to incorporate them at the division III level where time is very limited. Tannis developed Words for Number People as a way to provide practical, ready to use vocabulary and writing strategies to math and science teachers.
