Tools from the Toolbox- A Brain -Based Approach to Child Guidance
In this hands-on session for early childhood professionals, participants will explore brain-based strategies to guide behavior in supportive, inclusive ways that meet the needs of all children—including those with disabilities or social-emotional challenges. Grounded in the Pyramid Model and aligned with resources from ChallengingBehavior.org, this session focuses on proactive, developmentally appropriate practices for early learning environments. Through discussion, demonstration, and make-and-take activities, participants will learn how to use visual supports such as feelings charts, solution cards, and emotional thermometers to teach self-regulation and social problem-solving. Strategies are designed to strengthen relationships, reduce challenging behavior, and create emotionally safe spaces in child care centers and family child care homes. Attendees will leave with a personalized “Behavior Toolbox” filled with ready-to-use materials that support positive guidance and inclusion in everyday routines. Perfect for teachers, caregivers, directors, and coaches seeking practical, research-based tools that align with child development and the realities of early care and education settings.
