One State’s Story: Scaling Teacher Support to Foster Meaningful Practice
How can state and school leaders provide intentional, scalable support for physical educators? This session shares one state’s journey to strengthen teacher capacity through a thoughtfully designed microcredential grounded in the Meaningful Physical Education (MPE) framework. Participants will learn how the micro-credential was developed using democratic and reflective pedagogies to guide both content and design, modeling the same meaningful practices it promotes. In addition to the microcredential, the state is developing an Open Educational Resource (OER), a growing collection of lesson ideas and instructional tools aligned to MPE.
The session will walk through the process from initial vision to implementation, highlighting decision-making, collaboration, challenges, successes, and lessons learned. Attendees will explore sample modules and learning tasks, consider approaches to assessing teacher learning, and preview the OER in progress. Leaders will leave with actionable ideas for supporting high-quality professional learning in physical education at the local, district, or state level.
