From Policy to Practice: Advancing Adapted Physical Education Through District Leadership

This interactive workshop empowers district physical education leaders to drive systemic change that improves access and equity to physical education for students with disabilities. Participants will explore how to leverage district-level influence to implement small, sustainable program improvements. Through real-world examples and data-informed strategies attendees will learn how to advocate for policy implementation, support school-level change, and scale small, successful initiatives across large systems. The session will highlight one district’s journey from initial challenges to current progress, and outline the path forward with a focus on continuous improvement. Leaders will engage in discussions on creating communities of practice, teacher and administrator professional learning, student assessment procedures, and a collaborative school and teacher support model. By the end of the workshop both participants and facilitators will leave with fresh ideas, actionable strategies, and scalable solutions -- gained through shared learning, open dialogue and collective expertise to strengthen adapted physical education programs.
