You Got the Right Stuff! Designing Task Progressions to Build Students’ Adaptability in PE
Just like the New Kids on the Block sing, teachers “got the right stuff” when they can design impactful lessons that help students transfer their skills to a variety of game situations. This session will focus on how you can create task progressions using design principles of body scaling and simplification -- a powerful approach where teachers make small, intentional changes to tasks, such as equipment size, playing area dimensions, or task complexity, provide appropriate and individualized challenge and nudge students to explore and use what they see and feel to make quick, on-the-spot adjustments in fast paced, unpredictable game moments. Teachers will leave with practical strategies and ready-to-use progressions that will boost students’ game play, at the same time building skills needed for a lifetime of healthy, active living.
