Expanding your language teaching toolkit T3

Presented by Critical Agendas

Wednesday, August 26, 2026·11:30 PM

Loving tech or prefer more time-honoured strategies? This workshop blends the best of both worlds to offer a wide variety of activities to expand your language teacher toolkit. As a practising secondary teacher, Ian draws on his extensive experience teaching in a range of school settings to share strategies that can easily be integrated into lessons covering all macro-skill areas. Participants will leave with a wealth of ideas and resources to use in their own classrooms. Teachers of all languages are encouraged to attend. While examples will come mainly from French and EAL, these can easily be adapted to other languages. Bringing a laptop will enhance participants’ access to the full range of suggested activities. Ian is a highly engaging and dynamic French teacher and presenter, with extensive experience coordinating languages and year levels in schools and training language teachers at university level. With a Masters in Education specialising in curriculum development, he enjoys implementing innovative strategies in his own classroom practice. Ian draws on his French-teaching expertise in both private and public secondary settings to blend modern technologies and established strategies into a vibrant learning environment for his students. Ian’s passion for extending students’ learning beyond the classroom in meaningful contexts, has also led him to organise statewide VCE seminars and inter-school immersion camps for senior French students, as well as numerous student tours and exchanges to New Caledonia and France. “Why Is This Young Person So Hard to Teach? Understanding the Diagnoses PDA, IED, ODD, CD and ASPD’ – Aphra Millis” Aphra was great, so honest, down to earth and personable. I really loved the fact that she could talk to the topic both on a personal and professional level. She certainly raised awareness of a number of conditions and diagnoses that we are starting to see more of. Highly recommend her. Laura Hawxwell Haileybury College Director – Individual Learning Needs Classroom Dynamics – the latest strategies and solutions to positive classroom management – Glen Pearsall Top quality presenter who knows his stuff and delivers it in a way that is easy to understand and to apply. Check in was easy and the Critical Agendas staff were very helpful and professional.
