The PD Exchange

Indigenous Governance and Cultural Resurgence.

Part of CATCA 2026
Thursday 19 February 2026·4:00 pm

Education and governance are central to Indigenous self-determination. This session examines how Indigenous knowledge systems can inform institutional reform and community-driven policy. Participants learn how integrating Indigenous worldviews within educational structures fosters self-governance, strengthens leadership, and enhances long-term sustainability. Dr. Diana Steinhauer offers evidence-based insights into models of education grounded in iyiniw pimātisiwin (the original peoples’ ways of life). Through this framework, audiences discover how Indigenous values such as respect, reciprocity, and relational accountability can transform systems of learning and decision-making. The session equips participants with tools to embed self-determination into leadership, policy development, and collaborative governance.
