Engaging Students Using Student-Centered Interactive Learning Stations

Student centered interactive learning stations (SCILS) is an innovative teaching strategy developed for graduate nursing students using low modality simulation sessions to demonstrate skill acquisition, knowledge attainment and develop clinical decision-making competency which prepares them to provide quality, equitable patient centered care upon graduation. SCILS is a distinctive strategy as it utilizes experienced faculty at each learning station to simulate patient responses (voice of the patient) and coach (non-threatening feedback in a psychologically safe environment) students through their learning experience. Although SCILS was developed for graduate nursing students, it has broad application potential to other programs and disciplines.
