Discoveries and Provocations from the Inclusive and Diverse Literature Roundtables

Over the past four years, the English Language Arts Council has held a number of open roundtables devoted to discussions around more current inclusive and diverse texts that teachers can use in the classroom. The roundtables, open to all members of the English Language Arts Council, allow not only discussions of why new texts, but also of methods for how teachers might introduce them to students of diverse experiences and backgrounds. This includes potential discussion questions and authentic writing opportunities inspired by the texts. In this session, attendees will be introduced to the questions, key discussion points and recommendations highlighted over the past 4 years and will hopefully come away energized and excited to bring novel materials into their classes and through new perspectives, connect students to the different worlds around them.
