Passionate Paradox: Harmonizing the head and the heart in Humanities

With all the hats we wear each day, we must never forget that teachers are human too! Navigating the precarious waters of public discourse and professional obligations requires that we reconcile our identity and our integrity. This session will focus on how to approach the complex questions of the Humanities in the most human way. We will unpack the angst, uncertainty, joy, and sublimity of studying literature and society, and walk away with a slew of ideas to get students producing their own responses to the most relevant issues of their lives. By drawing on the innate political nature of teaching, this session will empower teachers to speak up for what they believe in and nurture an inquisitive classroom devoted to looking at everyone as human above all else.
