Strugglers to Superstars - Empowering Every Learner

From strugglers to standouts, this session will help bridge the gap with a mix of tried-and-true techniques and fresh, creative strategies to help readers and writers at all levels. Learn how to plan and instruct for both low- and high-level learners so every student can succeed. Going from “back to basics” to build up stamina to introducing low-stakes, high-reward writing strategies to get students engaged, participants will explore ways to differentiate learning without overwhelming themselves or their students. Building on Kelly Gallagher’s approach to novel studies, participants will learn how to use targeted reading and writing strategies to work with students so that they can work with texts and differentiate instruction for readers at all levels and streams in Grades 10-12. Through creative approaches that encourage teamwork and independent thinking, this session seeks to help every student develop confidence and thrive in the classroom.
