Bill 27, Book Bans, and a Culture of Fear and Censorship

Back-to-school this year included directives from Alberta Education to reduce efforts to remove classroom ressources, reduce student agency and bodily autonomy, and limit discussions and critical thinking in the classroom. How can teachers continue to teach when the very essence of our profession is questioned? This presentation will share results from a research study conducted throughout September with teachers from across Alberta in a context of uncertainty around job security and permissible speech in schools. We will share the creative and diverse ways that teachers continue to show up for their students and ensure belonging for all.
