Nigerian Folk Songs for Children

This session will explore three traditional Nigerian folk songs adapted for young learners, presented by Garth Prince and Riwo Egor. Participants will learn how to teach these songs using simple call-and-response techniques, movement, and percussion. The session will also include background on the cultural context of each piece and discussion on how to introduce them respectfully in classroom or community settings. Educators will leave with practical strategies for engaging students musically while building cultural awareness. This session is suitable for elementary music educators and anyone interested in African music and culture.
