Open Rehearsal with the Northern Alberta Junior Honour Band
Join Nathalie Roy and the Northern Alberta Junior Honour Band in an open rehearsal. Following the rehearsal, Nathalie will open the floor for a brief discussion of rehearsal techniques and information related to the honour band experience. Nathalie Roy currently resides in Calgary, where she serves as a Middle School Instrumental Music teacher and directs both the Middle School Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Music Ensemble at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School. A skilled pianist and trombonist, Nathalie earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the Université de Montréal and a Bachelor of Music Education from McGill University. Nathalie began her career in instrumental music education at Stanstead College (QC) in 2003 and later spent over a decade at Langdon School (AB) from 2007 to 2019, where she developed a dynamic and successful music program. She has also had the privilege of guest conducting the Rocky View Schools’ Junior Honour Band in both 2014 and 2018. Committed to continuous professional growth, Nathalie regularly attends conducting workshops with the Edmonton Cosmopolitan Music Society to refine her skills. In her teaching, Nathalie emphasizes building strong, respectful relationships with her students, fostering a collaborative environment where each musician understands their role in the collective success of the ensemble. Her student-centered approach prioritizes open communication, flexibility, and constructive feedback to promote both musical and personal growth. Outside the classroom, Nathalie is an avid motorcyclist with a deep passion for adventure. Each summer, she embarks on thrilling motorcycle journeys to the Yukon and Northwest Territories, immersing herself in the breathtaking landscapes and remote wilderness of northern Canada. These expeditions fuel her sense of freedom and discovery, inspiring her both personally and professionally.
