Provoking With Purpose: Supporting Literacy Development Using Loose Parts & Invitations for Learning
“Provoking with Purpose” will provide Early Years educators with practical strategies and tools to engage children in authentic learning experiences. In this session we will explore the theory of loose parts, while making authentic connections to the learners’ lived experiences through an equitable and anti-oppressive lens. We will explore how loose parts can be purposefully incorporated to support vocabulary development and comprehension. Educators will be provided with materials to deepen their understanding of Invitations for Learning as it relates to the diverse interests and needs of learners. We will examine how these invitations can spark curiosity and encourage engagement in reading and writing. Educators will gain insights into how using culturally relevant texts alongside loose parts can create rich, literacy-focused learning environments. This session aims to deepen your understanding of how to foster a love of reading and develop literacy skills in young learners through creative, inclusive, and responsive play-based approaches.
