Low Tech in the Science classroom

This proposal recommends increasing the use of low-tech, hands-on learning strategies- such as foldables, playdough modelling, food-based demonstrations, and interactive games- to enhance student engagement and comprehension across all types of classrooms from junior high to academic high school science. These approaches support diverse learners by providing tactile, visual, and kinesthetic opportunities to process complex concepts in subjects like science, math, and language arts. Activities may include foldable graphic organizers for note-taking, playdough molecule or geometry modelling, or vocabulary review games using simple classroom materials. Assessments can incorporate performance tasks, quick demonstrations, and creation of manipulatives that allow students to show understanding in varied ways. By integrating these low-tech strategies, teachers can increase accessibility, deepen learning, and foster a more dynamic and inclusive classroom environment. Session Objectives: 1. Help to increase the learning and retention of knowledge through various methods.  2.  Support different learning styles.
