Art and the Holocaust (Double Session)

Thursday 5 March 2026·4:00 pm

Each year, Holocaust Studies 35 students engage in a series of classes where they are challenged to get to know the artwork of individuals who created before, during and after the Holocaust. Following these explorations, they are then asked to create their own piece of art in the style of one or a combination of those artists. These pieces have been featured in art displays at the High River Library, the Central Calgary Library, and Beth Tzedec Synagogue. This session will provide participants the opportunity to engage in an abbreviated version of these lessons, and create their own piece. Participants will walk away with ideas to engage with their students in a creative way when dealing with difficult topics. Session Objectives: 1. Getting to know the Holocaust through art 2. Yad Vashem Ready2Print resources 3. Supporting student creativity through difficult subjects
