Using Foldscopes to Create Science Experiences for Students

As science educators, we need to ask ourselves the following question: How do we create experiences that invite all students to see themselves as scientists? And the answer is, by giving them the tools of science. This session will introduce attendees to the Foldscope microscope - an affordable, high quality microscope that every student can use inside or outdoors - and the additional support resources for integrating microscopy into the classroom setting (interdisciplinary and arts integration focused strategies) will be discussed. Attendees will leave with an assembled Foldscope, the skills to use and teach with the Foldscope, and the understanding of how the Foldscope can provide experiences that will take their students beyond just memorizing science content.
