The Science of Bison and Bannock for Allies - Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being in Chemistry
Interested in weaving Traditional Ecological Knowledge into your STEM lessons through the chemistry of bison and bannock? This session, designed for allies, will share Amanda Green's journey of learning from Indigenous people and respectfully implementing lessons on these traditional foods. Explore how bison and bannock offer rich opportunities to teach chemical properties and changes while honoring Indigenous culture. Gain insights on respectfully incorporating reconciliation into your teaching, independently or with community guidance. Amanda will share her experiences as an ally (including mistakes) to help others improve their practice. Lessons are geared towards Junior High (English/French) but adaptable for all ages.
