Totally Tubular Scale Drawings

Get ready to rock and roll with some seriously rad math! Our project, Totally Tubular Scale Drawings, takes middle school students on a trip back to the awesome decade of the 80’s. This showcase will highlight how we transformed traditional scale drawings into a high-energy, totally tubular, and deeply engaging experience. Students first become math historians where they research and select an iconic item from the 80’s. The challenge will then be to create a scaled up version of their item. But the fun doesn’t stop there! After their scale drawing is complete, students put on their producer hats and create a totally awesome, high-energy, 80’s-themed commercial to advertise their chosen item and most importantly, explain the math behind their scale drawing. Totally Tubular Scale Drawings is more than just a math project; it’s a celebration of cross-curricular learning that’s guaranteed to be a slam dunk for engagement.
