Author Studies: Beyond Storytime

An author study is a wonderful addition to any early literacy program for young children. By focusing on multiple works by a single author over a period of time, children learn critical thinking skills, develop literacy, and appreciation for the writer. Re-reading the texts, learning about the author, and engaging in enhancement activities (such as story dramatization, academic activities, and art experiences) come together to complete the author study. Author studies can complement any curriculum theme, can be adjusted to fit unique schedules and age groups, and can be conducted several times during the course of the time with the students.
