2025 SHAPE America Teachers of the Year: Moving students from Sideline to Center Court: Inclusive APE Strategies

Join our dynamic session in which we will explore how inclusive Adapted Physical Education (APE) strategies can ensure all students are active participants in quality physical education. This session will enable you to experience the APE student perspective in a General Education PE class which will include an ice breaker, station work, a whole group activity, and a collaborative debrief—you will experience how adaptions, accommodations, and inclusive strategies can be embedded into everyday instruction.

Participants will also learn to use an APE decision matrix to evaluate activities for accessibility and walk away with three essential resources to support their ongoing APE implementation. This session will empower you to move every student from the sidelines to center court, promoting equity and active engagement in physical education for all learners.
