ACEing Autism: Best Practices Implementing Adapted Tennis to Support Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder
With 1 in 36 children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), there is a growing need for inclusive, adapted physical activity opportunities in schools and communities. Many traditional programs are not designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with ASD, highlighting the importance of intentional adaptation. This session highlights how ACEing Autism, a non-profit organization, is adapting tennis activities to meet all children’s needs. Currently, ACEing Autism has three program models: Community Youth, School-Based, and Adults Program. Attendees will learn about the three models and get a preview of how the sessions are delivered, including how to engage school staff, families, and community partners to build supportive environments. Participants will walk away with practical strategies and real-world tools for inclusive programming.
