Developing Effective Curriculum to Tackle Social Media’s Impact on Body Image
Extensive research has confirmed the negative impact of social media on body image, particularly among youth and young adults. In response to these findings, we examined a range of evidence-based curriculum models -- including DOVE Confident Me, SoMe, Digital Bodies, and others -- to identify effective strategies for teaching digital literacy and promoting healthy body image. These insights were integrated into a general wellness course, allowing us to evaluate the most critical components for successful implementation. This presentation will share key findings from our curriculum analysis and implementation, highlighting essential elements that can be incorporated into K–12 and university-level health and wellness courses. We will provide practical recommendations, tools, and classroom activities designed to enhance digital literacy, foster body image awareness, and promote body positivity among students.
