Informing and Advancing APE: A CAPE Dialogue for Higher Education Faculty

This session is designed for higher education faculty involved in preparing future professionals in adapted physical education (APE). Participants will receive key updates from the Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS) committee, including progress on the national validation project, improvements to the Certified Adapted Physical Educator (CAPE) application process, updates to CAPE-related content on the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPEID) website, and recent trends in certification applications and participation. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in a sample CAPE validation assessment. The session will conclude with an open discussion on strategies to sustain and strengthen APE within teacher preparation programs. Topics may include student recruitment, program advocacy, and pathways to certification. Join us to exchange ideas, connect with colleagues, and help shape the future of CAPE certification.
