Integrate, Activate, Include: Using Inclusive Fitness to Promote Physical Activity

Wednesday 18 March 2026·2:00 pm

High 5 for Fitness is a set of resources from Special Olympics that helps youth ages 8-21 take control of their fitness. Pilot studies found that 92% of educators would recommend High 5 lesson plans to other educators. This session will equip educators with actionable and standards-based strategies to seamlessly integrate High 5 for Fitness resources into daily school activities. Participants will learn to modify their lesson plans to align student abilities with exercise difficulty, guiding students from foundational skills to advanced exercises and fostering growth-oriented mindsets. Educators will be empowered to include families in student fitness journeys through at-home physical activity frameworks. Health and PE teachers will be inspired to facilitate inclusive fitness experiences for students with and without IDD. Following this session, participants will be able to develop physically active youth, build healthy habits, and contribute to a sense of belonging in every gym, hallway, and living room.
