Making Movement Science Relevant for PETE Majors
This session explores an innovative university course designed to connect exercise physiology, functional anatomy, biomechanics, motor development, and motor learning directly to physical education teacher education (PETE) practice. Attendees will discover how integrating these sub-disciplines into a unified, practical course helps PETE students understand the “why” behind movement and the science that supports effective teaching. The course links functional anatomy to movement analysis, applies biomechanical principles to skill execution, and examines how growth and maturation influence motor skill development. Participants will learn strategies to make these foundational sciences relevant, engaging, and applicable for future PE teachers -- ensuring they graduate with both scientific knowledge and the ability to use it in real-world teaching.
