1D: From Data to Action: Using PDSA Cycles and Rigor Walks to Strengthen Literacy Systems

This session highlights how LAUSD partnered with the Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) to use PDSA cycles and Rigor Walks to improve middle school literacy outcomes in 25 schools. Participants will learn about LDC’s Literacy Leadership Mindset Shifts and their role in Tier 1 literacy improvement. They will also engage in a simulated Rigor Walk, a leadership practice that connects student outcomes to standards-based instruction. Using classroom tasks and student work, participants will analyze evidence of grade-level rigor and experience how PDSA cycle planning naturally emerges from this process. Participants will leave with: A protocol and rubric for analyzing student work against standards Strategies to build shared understanding of grade-level rigor Practical ways to embed Rigor Walks into PDSA cycles to strengthen instructional systems
