1P: Literacy for All: An Improvement-Driven Ecosystem Effort to Ensure Every Child Reads
Learn how New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) joined with actors throughout the New York City ecosystem to launch a citywide approach to ensuring every child can read. After just two years, all 32 New York City Public Schools Community School Districts posted year-over-year proficiency gains, with 27 of 32 outperforming the state and 22 posting double digit increases. Hear how together NYCPS, the Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) and others used participatory processes to define strategy, implement effective practices, monitor progress, make decisions based on data about what works, for whom, and under what conditions, and develop and engage hundreds of other nonprofits and public institutions around a strategic roadmap that details the actions, objectives, goals, and key measures required for achieving fully literacy for New York City’s young people.
