4M: From Words to Action: Design-Thinking Tools for Coherent Improvement
Tired of the same old visioning activities that produce lofty statements but little change? This workshop takes vision-setting beyond posters and slogans by introducing design-thinking approaches leaders can use to co-create vision with their teams and communities. In this workshop, participants will engage with interactive visioning protocols that surface shared values, student experiences, and instructional priorities—and learn how to facilitate them back in their own districts. They’ll see how Harlem District 5 paired a literacy mandate with aligned adult learning to boost ELA outcomes and how Burlington School District co-created an instructional framework with educators, leaders, and students to build coherence rooted in local context. Using design thinking tools, participants will experience models of evidence-based visioning processes they can replicate in their contexts to inspire their teams, garner alignment, and build for accelerated improvement. Note: This Summit session also invites attendees from the Deeper Learning Conference to participate. At Deeper Learning 2026 (DL26), a global community of educators, visionaries, and change-makers unites to reimagine what's possible in education. The Deeper Learning Conference features immersive and transformative learning experiences that inspire participants to design and lead with purpose, creativity, and joy. In 2026, we're bringing together the powerful Deeper Learning and Improvement communities through select crossover sessions, culminating in a joint closing keynote. You are invited to dive deeper and make new connections at Summit 2026. Check out our Summit and DL26 comparison to learn more.
