Applying First Nations, Metis and Inuit Knowledge as a non-Indigenous educator

All Alberta teachers are required to authentically share and build Indigenous knowledge with our students. We all know that the best step is to connect with an Elder or Knowledge Keeper to ground this work but sometimes teachers don't have access to these resources. Using Jo Chrona’s text, Wayi Wah! Indigenous Pedagogies: An Act for Reconciliation and Anti-Racist Education, Rebecca will share the work she has done at a classroom and school level, such as monthly Orange Shirt Days, monthly Land Based education walks to the forest, school wide bulletin boards and books by Indigenous authors. She will show how she is increasing her own skills, colleague’s skills and her students’ knowledge. Allyship can be a first step in becoming more confident in Indigenous knowledge.
