Girls Who Lead: Keeping Girls Confident in Leadership & Movement
We lose 40% of our girls from organized sport and activity by age 11. This number jumps to 64% by age 16. We also see a distinct drop in confidence levels (30%) by age 11, separate from their male counterparts. This is significant as we do not often get our girls active again into adulthood. On the flip side, 94% of women in high level career positions attribute their success to time spent in youth sport and organized activity, giving significance to work ethics, teamwork and social skills developed in sport situations. Girls Who Lead is our response to girls leaving movement (and confidence!) behind too early. We 'build confidence in leadership & movement' through extracurricular sessions that include fundamental movement patterns (building physical literacy) and leadership skills including resilience, goal setting, failure, body image and much more. Co-facilitators Katie and Jamie work with girls ages 6-12 in these extracurricular sessions, with support from Jr Coaches 12+ and up to encourage and walk alongside girls. We also provide workshop opportunities with parents, coaches and teachers to help keep girls moving and leading- for life. We focus on the impact a foundation of physical literacy can have on girls- for life.
