Back to Basics: Using the National Health Education Standards to Build Assessment and Instruction
Do you need help in figuring out how to build a skills-based program? Let’s get back to basics by reviewing SHAPE America's National Health Education Standards, grade spans, and performance indicators and learn how to use them to build assessment and instruction. We start by learning how to use backwards design to plan. Then, we access and use data as a rationale for your program. Pair a Standard 1 performance indicator with a skills indicator to reduce a risk factor or enhance a protective factor. Infuse the performance indicators with content. Use the verbs of the performance indicators to plan assessment. Use the assessment to build instruction. You can do it! Like anything, we learn by doing. The session includes practice in pairing performance indicators and using backwards design to plan assessment and instruction. My expertise is training teachers, let me help you!
