Who Gets to Define “Man”?

Masculinity is a hot topic in 2026, and what it means to be a "man" has never been so complicated -- or debated. Young people of today are subjected to constant messages from social media, the people they hang out with, and media which shape how they think about their identity and worth. This workshop will consider how masculinity has developed over time, and how precarious a place we find ourselves in. Educators will gain concepts for how to structure their own classes in positive and respectful conversation regarding masculinity -- conversation that will call upon them to look at themselves, challenge stereotypes, and build healthy, respectful selves. By understanding the forces that are forming masculinity today, educators can better help all students build confidence, empathy, and a broad definition of what it means to be themselves.
