From Policy to Practice: Designing Schools Where Every Learner Belongs

Educational policies reflect our collective commitment to equity, inclusion, and wellbeing. Yet it is the everyday decisions, interactions, and systems within schools that ultimately determine whether students genuinely experience belonging. For learners whose languages, abilities, or life circumstances require intentional accessibility and support, gaps between policy and practice can directly impact access, wellbeing, and belonging. Designing systems where every student belongs calls educators and school leaders to move beyond compliance toward purposeful, human-centered practice. Grounded in the E33 focus on equitable and accessible education designed around the wellbeing of diverse learners, this highly interactive workshop invites participants to critically examine how school structures, routines, and daily choices either cultivate or constrain student belonging. Using a World Café model, participants will engage with authentic, school-based scenarios that mirror common equity, inclusion, and wellbeing challenges. Through collaborative dialogue and guided reflection, they will identify the underlying human needs present in each scenario and co-design practical, context-responsive strategies that strengthen inclusion, connection, and wellbeing.
