Ciencias sin Fronteras: Estrategias para formar Campeones del Bilingüismo a través del Translenguaje y la Transferencia entre Inglés y Español

In dual language classrooms, science instruction offers unique opportunities to develop academic language in both languages. This workshop presents concrete, classroom-ready practices to turn science learning into a powerful driver of bilingualism by leveraging positive transfer between English and Spanish and intentional pedagogical translanguaging. Participants will learn how to design science activities in which students become “Champions of Bilingualism”—young researchers who observe, explain, argue, and communicate scientific concepts using multiple linguistic resources, including English, Spanish, diagrams, models, and transferable vocabulary, while maintaining strong academic rigor. Teachers will leave with practical templates, language routines, ready-to-use strategies, and clear examples of how to align these practices with NGSS, WIDA, and dual language program principles.
