Developing Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate IEPs for Multilingual Learners with Special Education Needs
In this session participants will review a recently developed guide to writing culturally and linguistically appropriate IEPs for bilingual learners with disabilities. The guide provides information about the different areas of the IEPs where teams can incorporate cultural and linguistic considerations: Student Present Levels, Parent Concerns, Communication Needs, Consideration of Special Factors, Annual Goals, Accommodations & Modifications, and State and District Assessments. The guide includes examples and suggestions for applying these guidelines in a variety of program models, for professional learning, and for ongoing collaboration between bilingual and special education teams.
