Dual Language Bilingual Educator Preparation with the EMMA Standards
This presentation builds ways to bridge pre- and in-service teacher preparation programs with social justice and advocacy at the forefront. The participant-centered session offers activities to unpack the EMMA teacher preparation Standards and their applicability for both district and school-based professional learning, including ways to partner with higher education faculty for site-based communities of practice. The presentation will also showcase/share a number of practical applications that have been developed through Project SEMBRAR, a project to pilot the EMMA National Dual Language Certificate (NDLC), anchored to the EMMA Standards and delivered via communities of practice across the MABE region. Session take-aways include creative ways to use the EMMA Standards for a community of practice approach to professional learning – expanding our campeones del bilingüismo.
