2P: What’s the Evidence? Strategies for Making Compelling Claims about Improvement

Tuesday 31 March 2026·4:40 pm

“How will we know that a change is an improvement?” is perhaps the fundamental question in improvement science–but it’s a question that is hard to answer with confidence. In this interactive session we’ll explore what counts as credible, compelling evidence of improvement. Using a focal project as a case, we’ll examine different types of data, analytic methods and visualizations that help build strong warrants for change. Together, we’ll surface strategies for distinguishing signal from noise, strengthening causal claims, and presenting results in ways that are both rigorous and persuasive. Participants will leave with practical tools and new ideas for determining whether the changes that are being tested are actually resulting in an improvement.
