3D: From Pilot to Expansion: RISE Launches AmeriCorps-Funded On-Track Mentor (OTM) Corps
Recognizing the importance of Grade 9, RISE first piloted an On-Track Coach (OTC) strategy during the 2016-17 academic year to support on-track success among incoming Grade 9 students who demonstrated attendance, academic and/or behavior risk factors in Grade 8. Nearly a decade later, RISE is prepared to share how the role of an OTC has been a pivotal contributing factor in RISE partner schools raising Grade 9 on-track rates by 15 percentage points (67% to 82%), narrowed the gap in college-ready GPAs by 12%, and chronic absenteeism by 11%. RISE will share insights on the OTC role and how they are scaling success through their AmeriCorps-funded On-Track Mentor (OTM) Corps. This session will highlight how staff-student relationships drive student success and the vital role of these youth development professionals. Participants will engage with how RISE is creating a sustainable, replicable approach that meets school needs and drives lasting impact.
