IR 1E: Connecting K–12 and Higher Ed: A Networked Approach to Improving Teacher Prep with the National Association of Higher Education Systems (NASH)

Note: If you attend this session, your lunch will be after this session -- from 12:45-1:45 p.m. -- in the High Tech Elementary Gym ("Round 2 Lunch"). This session shares a new joint effort between Connecticut’s public universities and K–12 systems to address a critical challenge in the teacher pipeline: preparing, placing, and retaining well-qualified teachers for today’s classrooms. As teacher shortages and retention challenges grow, the team is building a cross-sector improvement network to better understand how the higher education and K–12 systems interact and where breakdowns occur. They are grappling with how to map this complex system and develop meaningful measures that can guide improvement across both sectors. SESSION FORMAT NOTE: Improvement Reviews are a powerful routine that supports team learning and organizational change. Presenters share an improvement effort in progress, reflect on data and learning, pose a dilemma, and receive expert feedback. Led by Summit facilitators in a fishbowl format, these sessions allow attendees to experience the routine, learn from the presenting team, and gain insights for their own improvement work. Improvement Reviews are a key way we “walk our talk” as a learning community that celebrates and pushes each other’s work.
